FRIDAY, APRIL 12 and SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2019
IN OAK PARK
Celebrate Buddha's Enlightenment Day (April 15) with one of our most blessed practices, known as Nyungnay (pronounced NOONG-yay). This yearly event is a blissful method for purifying your mind. Done in conjunction with Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara practice, Nyungnay is very powerful for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, and for pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred.
The practice consists of taking Precepts at 7am, followed by three retreat sessions of beautiful prayers of compassion, which include the practice of prostration. Sessions are drop-in, so you can attend as few or as many sessions each day as you wish. The blessings we receive from this practice are immensely powerful, giving us the fuel we need to continue along the spiritual path.
Each day begins with taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts. When we take Precepts we promise to abstain for 24 hours from negative actions of body, speech, and mind, and to eat just one meal. During the fasting retreat it is traditional to have one meal on the first day and no food or drink at all on the second day to increase the purification. However it is possible to choose your own level of fasting on the second day (Saturday), eg complete fast, or to drink but not eat, or to eat one meal.
Please note: In order to attend any of the Retreat sessions on each day you will need to attend the Precepts session that morning at 7am. For example, if you plan to attend retreat sessions on both Friday and Saturday, you would need to attend the Precepts session at 7am on each day. You do not have to attend both days, or all of the other sessions to take part.
Everyone is welcome!
