SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2017 IN WICKER PARK
Buddha said that we can be our own worst enemy or our own best friend. We see this when we watch the outcomes of our decisions. In this special workshop, we will see how we can develop powerful determinations to move our mind and actions in the direction of positive outcomes all of the time.
The Pratimoksha Vow Ceremony
After the teaching, there will be a special vow ceremony available for those who wish to participate. We will have the opportunity to make a determination to avoid actions that do not lead us in positive directions.
“If we take vows all our actions become more powerful … Vows are the basis for accumulating a great amount of merit. If we take a vow and keep it purely, then even when we are asleep we are practising moral discipline.” – Joyful Path of Good Fortune
The Lay Pratimoksha Vows are a set of promises taken in a traditional ritual ceremony, in which we promise, with the motivation of renunciation, to refrain for the rest of our lives from five particular actions which interfere with our pure spiritual practice: killing, stealing, lying (or cheating), sexual misconduct, and taking intoxicants. If we are ready to take these vows happily and keep them purely, they will be a source of great meaning and joy in our lives.
