Some inspiration for our shrine

Much about the new space is still up in the air... When will we be ready to start renovations? When will we open? What's the best restaurant nearby?

But we can be pretty certain what our new shrine will look like. One recent Kadampa city temple to open was in Brisbane, Australia. Take a look at their shrine, and you can get a pretty good sense of what ours will look like!

Buddha Shakyamuni is in the middle. To his left is Green Tara, a stupa (a symbolic representation of Buddha's mind), and the five lineages of Dorje Shugden. To Buddha's right is Avalokiteshvara (the Buddha of compassion), another stupa, Je Tsongkhapa (who founded the New Kadampa lineage about 500 years ago) with his two spiritual sons, and in front of them a statue of our founder, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. At the top on both sides is a complete set of Dharma texts.

Just for fun and inspiration, here's a video showing off the beautiful new city temple in Brisbane. There are a lot of features specific to Brisbane's center, but still it's fun to look at this and think about how things will shape up here in Chicago!
