Buddha's teachings are called Dharma, which means "supreme protection for the mind." When we put Buddha's teachings, Dharma, into practice, our mind gradually becomes protected from suffering, until eventually we attain the supreme happiness and freedom from suffering, called Enlightenment. Motivated by his unconditional compassion, Buddha gave Dharma teachings as an effective method to stop suffering for others.
Out of compassion for others, we ourself can follow in Buddha's footsteps by becoming qualified Dharma teachers and helping others put an end to their suffering.
