FRIDAY NIGHT LECTURE
What is a Bodhisattva: A Buddhist Perspective on Living a Life of Altruism
Friday, April 28, 7 - 8:30pm
in Wicker Park
Our world is desperately in need of people fueled by compassion who strive to make their lives meaningful through service to others. Buddha described the life of such a person in the Mahayana Sutras -- the life of a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is a friend of the world who, motivated by compassion, seeks enlightenment to benefit all living beings.
Join our Midwest National Spiritual Director Gen Demo to explore how the life of a Bodhisattva translates to our modern world. By training in compassion and learning how to integrate the Bodhisattva's actions of giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom into busy daily life, we can make our life meaningful and unlock the profound joy of living a life of altruism.
7:00 - 8:30pm: Friday Night Lecture
WEEKEND COURSE
Becoming a Friend of the World: How to Practice the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life

Buddha’s example of peace and compassion has made a lasting impression in the world and inspired many people to enter a spiritual path. By following in his footsteps we can discover a life of great meaning and genuine happiness, and be able to truly benefit others.
During this weekend course, our Midwest National Spiritual Director Gen Demo will explain the six essential practices that form the Buddhist path to enlightenment and how to integrate these ancient practices into busy modern life. They are known as the six perfections -- the practices of giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom, all motivated by the supreme good heart known as Bodhichitta. Come learn how to transform all your daily activities into the Bodhisattva’s path to enlightenment!
