Details

October 25 is Je Tsongkhapa Day, when Kadampa centers and practitioners around the world remember the great kindness of Je Tsongkhapa.

Je Tsongkhapa, whose ordained name was Losang Dragpa, was a great 14th century Tibetan Buddhist Master who promoted and developed the Kadampa Buddhism that Atisha had introduced three centuries earlier. Although Je Tsongkhapa had the highest realisations of Highest Yoga Tantra he never physically showed that he was a Tantric yogi. He lived as an ordinary pure practitioner, emphasising by his outward appearance the pure practice of moral discipline. However, his daily life was that of a Bodhisattva, and his inner realisation of experiencing the union of great bliss and emptiness day and night was the very essence of Highest Yoga Tantra.

On this day, we remember Je Tsongkhapa’s great kindness and dedicate all our virtuous actions so that his Dharma will flourish throughout the world and provide many living beings with the great opportunity to attain liberation and full enlightenment.

KMC Chicago will celebrate this day with Offering to the Spiritual Guide, traditional Buddhist prayers in English. (More information about these prayers here.) Everyone is welcome to attend. It's traditional -- but not required -- to bring a small offering of food, flowers, or non-alcoholic drink.
